The Search
Choosing a Breed
When the time finally came to decide what kind of puppy we wanted there were several factors to consider. I absolutely did not want a dog with log fur/hair. Pet Daddy absolutely did not want a large dog.
I have always had a great fondness for slim dogs with short coats, think Greyhound or Great Dane, but having a weight restriction of 40 lbs kind of eliminated those breeds.
My thoughts were originally to look for an Italian Greyhound but Ontario breeders with expectant litters proved difficult to find. Also we had a pet bird at that time and I wasn’t convinced that introducing a sight hunter to the mix would be a wise decision, insert insane laugh because of how this worked out but that’s a later story……….
We had a few friends with pugs and I decided that was probably the direction I wanted to go in.
Finding our new fur baby
Searching locally I found a litter of Boston Terrier / Pugs, BUGS. There was a beautiful little brindle girl named Lady Bug, I wanted her. But by the time we found out about her and acted on it she was already spoken for. Broken hearted I expanded our search to all of Ontario, and I actually found a female Bug, or so I thought, but one half of the breeding couple had already promised her, and the half I was dealing with didn’t know yet. They contacted me to explain the error and they asked if I wanted a male. I wasn’t keen on a male but my husband was. Then they sent a picture and he was brindle, well I was hooked.
So I set to arranging for my husband to drive to Burlington at the end of his first week working in Toronto and commuting home (Thank-you Love). But then they suggested meeting him at the GO Station and I panicked that we were going to get a sick yucky dog and they didn’t want him finding them after. So now I’m telling him that if the dog looks questionable he should back out.
Then he sent me this picture
He was ADORABLE. So a few hours later he arrived home. And it wasn’t long at all until Xena had accepted her partner in chaos, Hercules. In their younger days they were often together, you rarely saw one without the other. Even now, while they cuddle less they are still partners in chaos and I don’t see that changing.
He’s pretty adorable on his own too
This was way back when he couldn’t jump in the tub any old time he decided to join in the water fun. And trust me, he’s a big fan of water fun.
He is such a wonderful part of our family.
Stay tuned for more wonderful stories.
